Before 1974, Famagusta city was the modern tourist destination. Hot sun, crystal clear waters, sandy beaches and bustling with life city was the prime holiday destination for many Europeans and number one in Cyprus. In August 1974, the Turkish Army invasion of Cyprus changed everything. Turkey claimed part of the island, closed and looted the city of Famagusta. Currently it is occupied and guarded by the Turks.

Interview with Alex Ioannou – explorer from Cyprus who had an amazing opportunity to visit Famagusta when the Turkish side decided to open the town to tourists in the summer of 2021. Alex shares his emotional story of visiting the ghost town and explains the history behind it.

Interview with Vasia Markides a documentary filmmaker behind the movie ‘Hidden in the Sand’ who is a Cypriot living in USA. Her mother lived in the city of Famagusta at the time of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Vasia shares details of her ambitious project of turning the ghost town into Eco-City. Vasia talked about her passion for the abandoned city and she shares stories of the former residents.
FAMAGUSTA EPISODE 3:
Interview with British explorer Sam Imba who was inspired by the stories on the podcast and the events in Cyprus and he decided to hop on the plane and make a weekend escape deep down into the ghost town of Famagusta. Sam describes in details his whole journey to Cyprus, trying numerous checkpoints to gain access to the town and eventually exploring it. He also shares rare story of meeting the locals and getting a unique experience and perspective into the whole issue.
